What Causes the Most Lawsuits in Construction
“Changes in Scope” is the top cause of construction lawsuits according to an article from Construction Dive. This article exposes the greatest problem ASAMW members report on their projects. Of the next five causes of conflict in the Americas, two involve design flaws. The only one that is caused by subcontractors is deficiencies in workmanship, which comes in third. The article explains why finishing contractors suffer the most, when it states, “…cause of conflict arises, as projects evolve, when both owners and design and construction teams discover design gaps and revise their views on specific elements of an asset’s operational requirements.” This insight comes from the sixth annual Crux insight report on global construction claims and disputes.

Are You Ready to Work in Prince George’s County?
With the decision to build the FBI Headquarters in Greenbelt, members can see a lot of work coming to that area of PG County in the next few years. The Washington Business Journal reported in this article that there will potentially be $4.1 billion invested in this 40-acre property. As this project moves forward, this association wishes to ensure fairness for all subcontractors. PG and the Feds have protections in place, but they will only be effective if you are aware and prepared to protect your company.
Need for Anti-Harassment Training
More than two-thirds of contractors offer anti-harassment training, according to this Construction Dive Article, based on a Dodge Construction Network Report. I did not hear of such training just a few years ago, but now it cannot be overlooked by any contractor of any size. The days of racist, discriminatory construction sites have passed and each member needs to do his/her part to eliminate discriminatory practices.
